The highly anticipated GRASS airdrop on Solana’s Phantom wallet experienced a major outage, leading to inaccurate account balances for users. Amid these developments, the altcoin involved in the airdrop saw a sharp price decline.
Phantom Wallet Faces Outage Amid GRASS Airdrop
Solana’s largest wallet, Phantom, recently announced an operational issue. This outage, which has been ongoing for about an hour, caused some users to see incorrect balances. Phantom’s status page currently indicates a “major issue,” with the team actively working to resolve it. Despite the outage, the browser extension and mobile app remain functional, with Phantom reassuring users that their “funds are safe.” In an update, the Phantom team stated:
“We are currently experiencing an uptime issue, which may temporarily affect certain services. If you need to complete a transaction, please ignore simulation errors and try using a dapp. Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve the issue.”

GRASS Altcoin Price Drops Amid Outage
The outage occurred as users of Grass, a Solana-based decentralized app, were claiming tokens from an airdrop expected to distribute 10% of the total GRASS supply. During this period, the GRASS token price took a downward turn, dropping from an intraday high of $0.87 to a low of $0.65. Although GRASS has since recovered some losses, it remains in the red, trading at $0.6863 with a daily loss exceeding 15%.
Despite the generally positive market sentiment, Solana’s native token SOL also saw a slight drop, trading at $173 with a 1.27% decline on the daily chart.
Not Phantom’s First Outage
This recent issue isn’t the first time Phantom has experienced outages. As The Bit Journal previously reported, Phantom encountered similar challenges on February 3, when token balances experienced delays. Another temporary issue on August 15 prevented users from seeing accurate account balances. In both cases, Phantom managed to resolve the issues swiftly.
The recent developments underscore the importance of reliable service in the fast-paced crypto market, especially during critical events like airdrops. Phantom has yet to comment on the cause of the issue.
