Altcoin Season Tied to Crypto ETF Launch Momentum, Says Bitfinex

The much-anticipated Altcoin Season may not fully materialize until new crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) hit the market, according to analysts at Bitfinex.

In a markets report published on Monday, Bitfinex analysts indicated that over the last 30 days, Bitcoin has lost its dominance by 6%, but noted that a general Altcoin Season in the near future is unlikely.

Instead, they noted that market interest in risk exposure is yet to rebound fully and that the real breakout in altcoins will come only when ETFs providing exposure to more than merely Bitcoin and Ethereum are introduced.

Bitfinex Analysts Link ETFs to Altcoin Season

Bitfinex analysts said, we don’t anticipate a ‘rising tide lifts all boats’ environment until later in the year when inflows into Bitcoin products regain momentum and new investment vehicles for altcoins are introduced.

The products have a high likelihood of producing sustained, price-insensitive demand, thereby preconditioning a wider-based re-rating through the digital asset complex as well as an eventual Altcoin rally.

According to the report, the current market is experiencing a softer appetite for risk, although there is still a positive capital flow, it is not as intense as the aggressive buying patterns that have been the hallmark of other periods of all-time highs, which has been the trigger of the full Altcoin rally.

Market Awaits SEC Ruling on Major ETF Filings

Such a cautious attitude is not shared by everyone. David Duong, the global research head of Coinbase Institutional, has implied that circumstances are already biased towards an extensive Altcoin rally, one which may come as early as September.

The discussion arises as investors await decisions by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on several pending ETF applications. The regulator recently put on hold the decision on a number of high profile products, including a Bitcoin-Ethereum ETF proposed by Truth Social, Solana funds by 21Shares and Bitwise, and the Core XRP Trust by 21Shares.

Speculation on the industry has also moved to less conventional products. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noted earlier this summer that “there is a really good chance” that active memecoin-focused ETFs will eventually come to market.

He pointed out that the actively managed crypto ETFs could come within the near term, with a memecoin-only fund possibly being launched by 2026, a move that would contribute to the next Altcoin rally.

In the meantime, the possibility of an Altcoin rally is set between cautious institutional analysis and bullish projections by industry leaders with the decisive challenge possibly with regulators.

Conclusion

Based on the latest research, Altcoin surge appears closely tied to the launch of new crypto ETFs. While market caution persists, analysts suggest that broader adoption of ETF products could unlock sustained demand. Until then, investors remain divided on whether the next major altcoin rally will arrive sooner or later.

Summary

Crypto analysts are divided on the timing of an altcoin season, with Bitfinex suggesting a broad rally may only follow the launch of altcoin-focused ETFs, while Coinbase’s David Duong predicts a potential breakout by September. The SEC has held up numerous ETF applications, including Solana and XRP-based products, which has led people to speculate on future approvals. Eric Balchunas at Bloomberg echoed that tone, stating that active crypto ETFs will likely come next, although it will take until 2026 to get a memecoin-only fund.
