Binance finds more breach points in $6.3 billion hack
In an announcement late Thursday, Binance said a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop may have let an attacker reach a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawals. At the time, it said it had found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. On Friday it said its investigation had uncovered “additional points of breach,” Decrypt reported.
CEO Richard Teng wrote that the attacker “did not simply use one engineer’s permissions, and this was not a single ‘one-click’ action.” Binance says about $3 billion of the total impact has been frozen onchain.
Deposits have reopened, but withdrawals remain suspended, and Binance says it’s on track to resume them in 45 hours. It has pledged to cover all losses from its SAFU fund and company funds. Co-CEO Yi He also pledged that the exchange will cover all user losses, according to The Block.
What the onchain trail shows
Blockchain analytics firm BitOK puts losses at $6.15 billion across nine blockchains, according to BeInCrypto’s reconstruction, which says the funds were drained in 31 minutes on October 29. The attacker never stole Binance’s private keys. Instead, they got the exchange’s own systems to approve the transfers, after funding wallets through the Tornado Cash mixer the day before. Why it matters: funds on any centralized platform carry counterparty risk, and recovery pledges depend on the company behind them.

Trezor warns CryptoBilis buyers about a hardware implant
A customer in Indonesia reported a hardware implant inside a Trezor Safe 5 through the company’s responsible disclosure program on October 28, Decrypt reported. The device was bought from reseller CryptoBilis via Tokopedia in August 2026.
The report describes an extra circuit board between the main board and the screen, with a cellular module and an antenna. It reportedly reads what the screen shows, including the wallet backup, and sends it over a mobile network when the device is plugged in. Trezor hasn’t received or verified the device yet but treats the report as credible and says it appears similar to Ledger’s case.
Trezor urged anyone who bought its wallets from CryptoBilis since March 2026 to move funds to a new wallet with a new recovery phrase. No CryptoBilis buyer has reported a loss of funds, the company said.
HYPE jumped 13% on ICE perpetual futures deal
HYPE rose about 13% on Thursday to roughly $91 after Intercontinental Exchange announced a deal to bring Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures to the US, Decrypt reported. The token climbed from a daily open of $80.69 to a high of $92.10 on KuCoin, about 7% below its September record near $98. Decrypt put its market cap at about $22.4 billion.
Under the agreement, ICE is set to become the exclusive operator of Trade[XYZ]’s regulated markets and take a strategic stake in the company, subject to regulatory approvals. There is no launch date yet. Perpetual futures let traders take leveraged positions with no expiry, which can amplify losses as fast as gains. We covered the background in our piece on regulated perpetual futures in the US.

HTX agrees to leave the UK in FCA settlement
Justin Sun’s HTX has agreed to exit the UK, closing the Financial Conduct Authority’s first enforcement case against a crypto firm over financial promotions, Bitcoin Magazine reported on October 29. Citing Financial Times reporting, it said the settlement ends a High Court action that began in October 2025.
UK customers can’t deposit and new users can’t register. Existing customers have 48 hours to withdraw assets before their accounts close, the report said. “Crypto firms should be under no illusion: being based overseas does not put them beyond the reach of UK law,” said Steve Smart, the FCA’s executive director of enforcement and market oversight. HTX says it has put measures in place to align with UK promotion rules.
