The day's top stories span dividends, stablecoin ratings and security incidents.

Crypto news today is led by a dividend change at Strategy, a credit rating for Ripple’s stablecoin and two separate data incidents touching major exchanges. Below are the stories reported on October 28, 2026, and why each one matters, roughly ordered by how widely outlets covered it.

Crypto market overview for October 28, 2026

Sentiment sits in the middle. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index read 51, classified as “Neutral”, according to alternative.me. That reading is timestamped October 29, 2026 (UTC). Verified price data wasn’t available for this roundup, so we aren’t quoting levels for bitcoin or other assets.

A neutral reading points to neither panic nor euphoria. It doesn’t predict direction, though, and crypto prices can still move sharply either way within hours.

Strategy shareholders approve daily dividends on preferred stock

Strategy, the largest bitcoin treasury company, won shareholder approval to pay daily dividends on four of its preferred securities, Cointelegraph reported. Daily payments on STRC start in November. The other three preferred securities follow in January 2027.

Decrypt and Bitcoin Magazine also carried the story, making it one of the two most widely covered items of the day. Why it matters: the change affects how often the company pays these holders. Preferred dividends aren’t deposits, however. They depend on the issuer’s ability to keep funding them, and the securities themselves can lose value.

Coinbase says it wasn’t breached, points to analytics vendor

Coinbase pushed back on rumors of a data breach. “Coinbase has not had a data breach,” its official support account said on X, as U.Today reported. Instead, analytics vendor Amplitude suffered a security incident that affected a small subset of Coinbase customer contact data, along with data from other Amplitude customers.

Coinbase said it found no evidence of unauthorized access to its own systems and that customer funds weren’t impacted. It is notifying affected customers and regulatory agencies in line with its legal obligations. The episode shows how a vendor incident can expose user data even when an exchange’s own systems aren’t breached. Exposed contact details could be used in phishing attempts, so users may want to treat unexpected messages claiming to come from the exchange with caution.

Moody’s rates Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin A2

Moody’s assigned an A2 long-term and a P-1 short-term deposit rating to Ripple USD (RLUSD), the agency said on Tuesday, according to Decrypt. RLUSD is the roughly $2.6 billion dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Ripple subsidiary Standard Custody & Trust Company. A2 is the sixth-highest long-term grade on Moody’s scale, and P-1 is its top short-term grade.

The agency pointed to reserves held mainly in Treasury bills, other short-term U.S. government assets and cash, mostly with custodian BNY, with a target of 103% coverage of tokens in circulation. Eligible institutional holders can redeem at par within two business days.

Moody’s also flagged gaps in holder protection:

  • Standard Custody isn’t a bankruptcy-remote entity.
  • Holders don’t currently have a direct ownership interest in the reserves.

The agency noted, though, that the GENIUS Act, due to take effect in 2027, will exclude required reserves from an issuer’s bankruptcy estate. The rating was requested by the issuer.

It landed a day after Ripple won final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for Ripple National Trust Bank. The new bank will manage RLUSD’s reserves and act as their collateral trustee.

Bitwise raises its long-term bitcoin price target

Bitwise raised its bitcoin price target to $1.6 million by 2036 and projects 34% annualized returns, The Block reported. These are the firm’s own scenarios, not certainties.

Bitwise scenarioBitcoin by 2036
Bear case$130,686
Price target$1.6 million
Bull case$3.67 million

The Block’s summary doesn’t detail the assumptions behind these figures. Decade-long forecasts depend on conditions that can change, and the wide gap between Bitwise’s bear and bull cases shows how uncertain they are. For a shorter-term perspective, see our earlier bitcoin price analysis.

Bithumb reports hack of internal system

South Korea’s second-largest crypto exchange, Bithumb, said an unauthorized outside party accessed its internal mobile groupware system and leaked personal information, Decrypt reported, citing Yonhap and Reuters. The exchange is still checking whether customer data was exposed, though an industry source told Yonhap some had leaked.

Bithumb wasn’t the only firm affected:

  • Brokerage Daishin Securities said personal information of 38,490 customers leaked.
  • Asset manager Mirae Asset Global Investments confirmed a hacking incident.

Earlier this month, the Financial Services Commission said attacks on 16 South Korean financial firms, including banks, had caused around 100,000 data leaks. Financial authorities have begun inspecting the latest incidents.

Other headlines

Two smaller stories rounded out the latest crypto news and markets coverage:

  • Switzerland: FINMA approved the country’s first Swiss-law retail ETF that invests directly in bitcoin, NewsBTC reported. The regulator announced the approval on October 20 and classed the fund as an alternative-investment product carrying specific risk. It also requires supervised institutions to mitigate custody and operational risks.
  • Deutsche Bank: The bank drew a record €47 billion in new client money in Q3 and posted €1.9 billion in after-tax profit, BeInCrypto reported. European bank stocks, meanwhile, have fallen 7% since early September.
