Bitwise's new long-term model led the day's crypto headlines.

Crypto news today is led by Bitwise lifting its 2036 Bitcoin target to $1.6 million, Strategy shareholders approving daily dividends on four preferred stocks and Utah filing felony charges against Kalshi and its co-founders. Bitcoin, meanwhile, sat just under $80,000 on October 29, 2026.

Crypto news today opens with a flat, slightly red market

Prices barely moved in the 24 hours to 13:13 UTC on October 29, according to CoinGecko market data. Bitcoin traded at $79,998, down 0.78% on the day, after swinging between $79,636 and $81,698. That leaves BTC about 37% below its $126,080 all-time high from October 6, 2025.

The bigger move shows up over 30 days, when Ethereum, XRP and Solana each lost between 15% and 16%. Even so, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index read 51 (“Neutral”) on October 29. We looked at the recent dip in our earlier report on Bitcoin slipping below $80K.

Bitwise raises its long-term Bitcoin forecast to $1.6 million

Bitwise now projects Bitcoin could reach $1.6 million by 2036, up from its previous $1.3 million target, CryptoNews reported. The figure comes from the asset manager’s 2027 Bitcoin Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions, published October 28. The report projects a 34.3% compound annual growth rate over the next decade. Last year’s version assumed 28.3%.

Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan said the updated model points to stronger long-term growth. According to CryptoNews, the higher target reflects expanding institutional demand and a larger market for store-of-value assets. The Block and Bitcoin Magazine also covered the report.

This is a ten-year model, not a price promise. It also comes after Bitcoin fell more than 50% between October 2025 and June 2026, a reminder that the road to any target can include deep drawdowns. Long-range forecasts from asset managers rest on assumptions that may not hold.

Strategy moves four preferred stocks to daily dividends

Strategy shareholders approved daily dividend payments for four of the company’s preferred stocks, Cointelegraph reported on October 28. Payments on STRC start in November, with the other three following in January 2027. Decrypt and Bitcoin Magazine carried the story too.

Strategy is the largest Bitcoin treasury company. A dividend schedule is not a guarantee of payment, and investors in preferred stock still carry issuer risk. We covered the vote in our report on Strategy’s preferred stock dividends.

Utah files felony charges against Kalshi and its co-founders

Utah has charged prediction market Kalshi, CEO Tarek Mansour and COO Luana Lopes Lara, accusing them of illegally promoting gambling in the state, Decrypt reported, citing ABC4. The charges include:

  • one count of pattern of unlawful activity (a second-degree felony)
  • 12 counts of online gambling promotion (third-degree felonies)
  • one misdemeanor count of gambling promotion

Prosecutors say an undercover state agent placed 12 sports wagers in September after passing a location check. The bets included NFL and college games. “Calling it a ‘prediction market’ doesn’t change what it is, and being federally registered doesn’t put a company above the law,” Utah Attorney General Derek Brown said. Kalshi called the case “a crazy overreach” and said Utah is “clearly playing politics.”

Kalshi’s response came a day after the CFTC sued Utah to stop it from enforcing state gambling laws against federally regulated exchanges. That leaves a state criminal case and a federal lawsuit running side by side, with no outcome yet in either. Read more on prediction market regulation.

Fed holds rates as BlackRock flags AI as a macro driver

The Federal Reserve held rates at 3.75% to 4% on Wednesday, October 28, BeInCrypto reported. BlackRock managing director Jeffrey Rosenberg said Fed Chair Kevin Warsh linked tightening financial conditions to AI. He added that a blow to AI would be “primarily disinflationary.”

BeInCrypto notes that such a shift reaches rate-sensitive assets like Bitcoin. Fidelity’s Jurrien Timmer says the Goldman Sachs AI basket has fallen 22% since early June. The 10-year Treasury yield closed at 4.96% on October 22, its first close below 5% since September 22. Rosenberg stopped short of saying the Fed would cushion falling markets.
